Algae Masks, FAVINI - 2019
Part of research Aesthetics of Sustenability, the idea is to present a series of masks easy to fold, made by Shiro Algae Paper, a special paper patented by Favini, made with excess algae from the Venice lagoon. The mask is a universal phenomenon that goes through man’s adventures, masks have been used to represent the beauty, the grotesque, the sublime, the tragedies of man. These masks show subtly, but coherently, the beauty of the Algae Paper, through the age-old imagery of Venetian Carnival, which origins come from puppet theaters in the streets and from the Italian Commedia dell’Arte.
The shapes are completely process driven, experimenting all the possibilieties of folding paper.
